Governor Announces $150,000 in Scholarships
Available to Montana Students
(HELENA) - Governor Brian Schweitzer announced the availability of $150,000 in scholarships for High School seniors in
recognition of their service to their community. Students who perform 100 hours of community service in their community
before the May 16, 2008 deadline will qualify for a $1000 educational award.
“I hope every Montana student takes advantage of the opportunity to become involved in their communities through
community service. Montana needs their energy, enthusiasm and leadership,” said Governor Brian Schweitzer. “These
scholarships will not only further their education, but help keep Montana on the move. I’m proud to be able to honor
students who invest their time and talents in Montana.”
Scholarships are made available through the Governor’s Office of Community Service and Montana Campus Compact.
The Student Assistance Foundation graciously provided a $75,000 matching grant to support the Governor’s Community
Service Scholarship.
Only one student per high school may apply and the scholarships will be awarded on a first come first served basis to
attend one of Montana’s public, tribal, private, community or technical colleges. A total of 8 scholarships will be made
available to seniors not attending public high schools. An application must be submitted by the High School principal or
County Superintendent to the Governors Office of Community Service by May 16, 2008. The application form can be found
