Susie Heppner

Funeral services for Susie Heppner will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, February 25. Pastor Jay Reinke will
officiate at the service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Plentywood; interment will be in Trinity Cemetery,
northeast of Plentywood. Her grandchildren will be casketbearers. Susie, 92, died early Wednesday
morning at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood.

Susanna, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Fresz) Lasar was born January 18, 1916, on her parents
homestead at Richland, Montana. Although the only language she could speak was German when she
started school, she was a quick learner and learned to speak English and enjoyed her school years.

She married Henry Heppner on September 28, 1934, and lived on the Heppner homestead east of
Plentywood. She always enjoyed the outdoors, especially the animals. She has been a member of
Trinity Lutheran Church since her marriage in 1934. Even though driving was not her favorite thing to do,
she wanted to remain on the farm and be independent as Henry's health declined, so Susie learned to
drive when she was in her sixties, and passed her driving test.
After Henry died in September of 1984, Susie bought a home in Plentywood in 1985,  but her heart has always been on the farm. She made the
best of it and always had a big garden in town.  She enjoyed traveling; traveling to Europe to see relatives and spending winters in St. George,
Utah and Tucson, Arizona as long as her health permitted. Memories of her travels came home with her in the form of an extensive collection of
salt-and-pepper shakers from all over the world. She has always enjoyed learning, participating in the Elderhostel program, and  and reading
extensively, especially history and western novels: she always said books were her best friends. After a series of heart problems and a stroke,
Susie entered the nursing home in December of 2003. A gentle, kind person with a quick smile, she deeply appreciated the kindness and
caring of the nursing home staff.  All her children were very proud of her.

Family has always been important to Susie. She is survived by her six children: Walter and his wife Vonna,  Lawrence and his wife Mary Lou,
and Ralph and his wife Linda,  who live in Plentywood, Dorothy Kratovil and her husband Jim,  in Williston, North Dakota;  Irene Anderson in
East Carbon, Utah;  and Michael and his wife Sharon in Tucson, Arizona. She has 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2
great-great-grandchildren, and is also survived by a brother and a sister,  Frank Lasar and Helen McNees, and by numerous nephews and
nieces. Besides her husband and parents, Susie was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and John Lasar, and three sisters: Elizabeth
Phillips, Katherine Stober, and Barbara Heppner.

We were sorry to hear that Susie had passed away. She was such a survivor, a very determined person. Lola especially enjoyed
Susie at LWML meetings, you always listened when Susie had something to say in our Bible study as it was so sincere. We have
missed her at church doings during the past few years. God bless all of you

My sincere sympathy to all of you.  The success of a person's life is not counted so much by the number of years they live but by
the influence their life has had on others.  Each of you are that reflection proving that she lived a very successful life indeed.  My
favorite quote is one that I just recently read and it is...."Stand by me for awhile and remember my best."  I know you will all be
able to do that for Susie.
