She taught grades kindergarten through 6th in a one room school house at Teepee Butte school in Dover, North Dakota. She married
Charles G. Hanson on November 26, 1957. They lived on the family farm for a time, then moved into New England. In 1961 they moved
to Baker, Montana where her husband worked in the oil field. After 7 more moves, the family settled in Plentywood in 1969, where they
have lived since. Marlene and Charles recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Family activities were the center of Marlene’s life: she followed the children’s school and athletic events, and continued to do so as an
Honorary Member of the Plentywood Athletic Club. She belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church and served as a CCD teacher. Marlene
was widely regarded as an accomplished seamstress – she always had a backlog of sewing projects, both of her own and for other
people. After her family was raised, she worked in various jobs outside the home. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary
and of the Elks.
