Edna Joyes

Funeral services for Edna Mae Joyes were held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Pastor David
Curtright officiated at the service at Plentywood Lutheran Church; interment was in Plentywood
Memorial Cemetery. Casketbearers were her grandsons and great grandsons: Chris and Wesley
Flacker, Joel Joyes, Joshua Martin, Jeffrey, Kevin and Karaig Ordahl and Aaron Paulson. All of her
other grandchildren and great-grandchildren were considered Honorary Bearers, as were the
Staff of Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home. Orland and Edna Bruvold and Bennie and Ann Lund
were ushers. Edna Mae, 87, died Friday, June 13, 2008 with her children at her side at Sheridan
Memorial Nursing Home in Plentywood.
Edna Mae was born November 10, 1920 at the farm home of her parents, Ole and Eva (French)
Boe, in the Coalridge community of Sheridan County. She grew up there, attended the Haaven
grade school,  and graduated from Plentywood High School in 1939. She married Royal Joyes
June 14, 1942 in Plentywood. They operated Deck’s Bakery and Café before moving to Peoria,
Illinois where Royal trained for watch repair, then returned to Plentywood. They continued in
business in Plentywood, with a jewelry and men’s  clothing store, and  Edna worked as office
manager in the Plentywood J.C. Penney  store for almost 28 years until retirement in 1984.
. . . . in Memory of . . . .
Edna loved being a homemaker – caring for the children and grandchildren, and maintaining a meticulous home for their family. She
was a member of the Plentywood Lutheran Church and WELCA, and was a charter member of the Plentywood Hometowners Club.
After Royal’s death June 21, 1994, Edna eventually moved to the Montana Pioneer Manor, where she lived until  September 27, 2006.
She then moved  to Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home, where she was deeply loved by the other residents and staff, which made her
feel  “at home.”

Edna is survived by her children and their families: Judy Ordahl and her husband Wayne, of Outlook and Helena; Darlene Flacker and
her husband Ed, of Boise, Idaho and Green Valley, Arizona; and Herb and his wife Susan, of Plentywood. Judy’s children are Karla
Martin, Kristi Paulsen, Kevin, and Kraig; Darlene’s are Wesley, Chris, and Jill Ritchie; and Herb has Jennifer Hoar, Allison Rutherford,
and Joel. Edna is also survived by  21 great-grandchildren and a sister, Doris Hancock, and brother-in-law, Buster Brenteson, both of the
Montana Pioneer Manor. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Boe; a sister, Erma
Brenteson, and by a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Ordahl.

Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood had charge of arrangements.
