and David Richardson. Don, 86, died of natural causes Friday afternoon, July 11,  at Billings Clinic
where he had been hospitalized since July 5.

Don was born November 24, 1921 at Carbert, Montana, the son of Leland and Ida (Torkelson)
McCann. He graduated from Scobey High School in 1939, and attended Billings Polytechnic College
where he trained in accounting before entry into the US Army in July, 1942. After service in Europe, he
was discharged in January, 1946 and  returned to farm with his father for a year, then started a 28-
year career with the Department of Agriculture’s Soil Conservation Service. He married Joyce
Rossing July 9, 1950 in Scobey; they lived there, in Bozeman, and for 3½ years in Butte before
moving to Plentywood in 1965, where they have made their home since. After retirement from the
SCS in December, 1976, Don operated the family farm in Daniels County with his son, Grant.
Don loved to be with his kids and grandchildren: playing cards, bowling, attending every school and sporting event of theirs he could. He
was gentle but firm, and loved their hugs and kisses for “Big Poppa.” Most of them learned to drive in his lap, lurching around the farm in
a variety of vehicles! Don loved farming and being a part of the farm activities; even when his own harvest was done, he stayed busy
helping Wade and Lori and their family at their place. As a young man, he played softball; he bowled as long as his health allowed, and
he played golf, especially with his grandson, Michael. Don was a member of Plentywood Lutheran Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
was a member and Past Master of the Plentywood Masonic Lodge and of the Scottish Rite and Shrine, and served as president of the
Plentywood Shrine Club.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of Plentywood;  two sons, Grant and his wife Toni, of Plentywood and Gregory and his wife Paula, of
Sierra Vista, Arizona; and a daughter, Lori Bjorgen and her husband Wade, of Westby.  He is also survived by a sister, Diane Rice  and
her husband Burton, of Eureka, Montana; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death
by a son, Kevin, in 1976; a great-grandson, Alex McCann in1999, and a grandson, Michael Bjorgen, in 2007.

Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood has charge of arrangements.
