David was born on December 9, 1955 in Astoria, Oregon, a son of Arthur and Eva (Nichols) Nelson. Part
of David's childhood was spent in Redstone, Montana with his three siblings. After Art's death, David was
adopted by his paternal grandparents, Nels and Alice Nelson. He also spent a great deal of time with his
uncle Walt and aunt Shirley and family on the Nelson family farm assisting with the farming operation. He
also helped his brother Corwyn on the Tange family farm. He attended school in Medicine Lake and
Antelope, Montana and later attained his GED.
When he was seventeen years old, he joined the U.S. Marines, graduating from boot camp in September of 1973. He served in California and
Grenada.
After leaving the Marines he moved back to Montana and worked at various jobs in Sheridan County. He loved working with large machinery and
enjoyed working on a crane. One of the highlights of his occupational life was obtaining his Crane Operator's License. David also had a demolition
license and worked with explosives in the gold mines in California. He was a very daring person, working on high towers and derricks. David was a
mechanic and loved working on automobiles and motorcycles, especially his Harley. He was a member of the Sheridan County Old Tractor Club and
Plentywood VFW; was also an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. David was
loved by everyone who met him. He never had a judging spirit and would lend a helping hand to anyone. His greatest love was his children and
grandchildren.
Now he is on a never ending spiritual ride on eagles' wings with his grandson, Nathaniel. David is survived by his children: Jeramy Buckman and his
wife Taylor of Choteau, Montana and David A. Nelson, Jr. of Deer Lodge, Montana. He is survived by his very special friend Dianna Nelson. His
surviving stepchildren are, Stephen Adams of Plentywood, Nevada Buckman of Choteau, Montana and Angela Adams, also of Plentywood and one
grandchild, Kaydense Adams. Also surviving is a sister Vicki Malatare and her husband Charlie of Spokane, Washington, a brother Corwyn Nelson
of Redstone, Montana and sister Wendy Bantz and her husband Larry of Helena, Montana; an aunt Doreen Bain and her husband Larry of rural
Plentywood and uncle Walt Nelson and his wife Shirley of rural Antelope. Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He is
