Local up and coming country singing talent, Jason DeShaw and his band of student
advocates are touring central and eastern Montana singing and promoting the benefits of
biodiesel fuel. The 1,000 mile week long 17 stop tour began at the Angus Bar in Cascade,
Mt and will end up in Helena on Saturday at the Windsor Ballroom where they will hook up
with musical guests Third Wheels
On the Road With Jason DeShaw and The S.A.V.E.
Foundation 1000 Mile Concert Tour for Biodiesel
The Truck Stopped Here . . .
One of the scheduled tour stops was in Plentywood,
November 30, Jason's home town, where he played in
front of an attentive High School student body. The
concert featured a demonstration on the advantages
of using biodiesel and step-by-step guide on how to
brew up a batch.

"Biodiesel has proven potential as an alternative fuel
that can benefit the environment and the local
economy, particularly in the agricultural areas of
Montana," said Matthew Elsaesser, S.A.V.E.
Foundation executive director. The groups tour bus is
S.A.V.E.'s "vegi-mobile" — a 1987 F-350 modified to
start on a 50 percent biodiesel-additive blend and then
switches over to run on 100 percent biodiesel.

"Everyone should do their part to protect the
environment, using the skills they have," said S.A.V.E.
Foundation board member Caleb Cantwell-Frank.
"That is what this tour is about."

What is Biodiesel?

Fuel From Vegetable Oil
Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that can be used in place of
petroleum based-diesel fuel. Most diesel cars can run biodiesel
with no modifications to the fuel system.

Biodiesel starts out at vegetable based oil. The oil is chemically
transformed into methyl esters (biodiesel) and glycerin (a
byproduct). The chemical process is called transesterfication. You
can make biodiesel from new oil, but often the biodiesel originally
started as waste oil from, for example, a restaurant.

Biodiesel can be blended in any amount with petroleum based
diesel fuel. B100 is the name for pure biodiesel, whereas B20
contains only 20% biodiesel and B10 only 10% biodiesel. Like
petroleum based diesel fuel, biodiesel will need additives to keep it
from “gelling” in extreme cold weather.
